Shaved Brussels Sprouts-the BEST (for real)

I know I have claimed to have made the BEST Brussels sprouts before, but this method, FOR REAL is the best.

I’ve been obsessed with cooking my Brussels this way for the last month and every night my husband watches in horror awe as I eat a mountain of greens. They are seriously so good! When I get to the last bite I’m always so sad.

I’ve been a dead beat blogger lately, more than usual even. It’s not that I don’t still love my blog, because I totally do. It’s just that my husband and I are too busy binge watching Sons of Anarchy to do anything else!!

Have you seen this show?! Of all the TV shows I’ve binge watched I think this one is my favorite. I highly recommend it!

Shaved Brussels Sprouts Recipe

  • Brussels Sprouts (I’ve been buying the bag from Costco!)
  • Oil of choice (guilty pleasure-my favorite for this dish is butter or ghee!)
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Start by cutting the ends off all the Brussels and then run them through your food processor using the slicing attachment, not the shredding blade. This will yield wonderful slices, bits and pieces. I slice enough for a week and keep them in a ziploc bag in the fridge and then every night I heat & eat.

To prepare: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil of choice in a frying pan over medium-low to low heat. Add 2 cups of sliced Brussels and toss them around in the oil. Cover the pan with a splatter cover and allow them to cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add salt & pepper to taste and cook until the sprouts are tender or even browned a bit. Enjoy!

So simple, delicious and healthy!

Skincare Products I LOVE!

A few weeks ago a friend of mine told me my skin looked “so good” and asked what products I use. Me. She asked me! Me with the acne scars and dark spots. This friend has known me for almost 10 years and she’s a hair stylist so I took this as a huge compliment.

I have absolutely NO expertise whatsoever in the skincare world, but trying different products is somewhat of a obsession hobby of mine. When my acne was bad I tried about a gazillion different moisturizers, treatments and sunscreens, searching for the perfect product that wouldn’t make me breakout so it’s only fitting that I would now write about all my favorites-I’ve done a lot of research!

Of course now I know it was never the products causing my breakouts, it was my hormones. But products do play a huge role in skin health.

I primarily use Dermalogica products and have since I was 19. They seem expensive at first glance but Dermalogica products (I’ve tried pretty much every product they make) last a really long time. For example, my cleanser probably lasts close to a year. I did the math once and their products end up costing about the same (or less) as drug store brands in the long run. I always buy my skin care products on sale too! I get all my Dermalogica products 20-30% off from Sign up for their emails-they always have sales.

1. Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel
I’ve used this cleanser since I was 19! It’s a good one. Just basic & gentle.

2. Dermalogica Active Moist
I’ve used this moisturizer since I was 19 too! It’s really, really lightweight so perfect for acne prone skin or for use in hot or humid climates. I use this year round but in the winter I have to supplement with a heavy duty moisturizer too.

3. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
My esthetitian had me start using this to take care of all the pesky little bumps and roughness my acne left behind. It has worked miracles.

4. Dermalogica Solar Defense Booster
I love this sunscreen because 1) it’s SPF 50, 2) you can layer it over any moisturizer and 3) it’s really lightweight so you don’t have that heavy sunscreen feel.

5. Dermalogica AgeSmart Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 50
I am a bit of a sunscreen junky and have tried too many sunscreens to count. I wear SPF 50 on my face every day, even in the winter because I have melasma (dark spots made worse by sun and heat). It’s lightweight, doesn’t have a sunscreen feel and doesn’t make me breakout! It is a little more expensive but I like that it’s an all in one kind of product.

6. Murad Rapid Age Spot & Pigment Lightening Serum
I am the queen of hyperpigmentation! I have melasma and dark acne scars. This is the highest concentration of hydroquinone you can buy over the counter but it also has vitamin c which is good for hyperpigmentation too! I have used prescription hydroquinone and I honestly think this product works almost as well as the 6% prescription I had. Actually better because I can use this product every day. I could only use the 6% stuff a few times a week because it made my face red and irritated.

I know that probably seems like a lot of different things but I actually feel like my skincare regimen is pretty simple.
